SPOTLIGHT: The Bamboo Skewer

Another beautiful Summer day, calling out to those trapped in a downtown office to come out into the sunshine. My coworkers and I answered the call and headed to Civic Center EATS to bask in the warmth and enjoy a few plates of delicious food.

This time, we stopped by the Japanese-inspired food truck, The Bamboo Skewer.

Specializing in yakitori otherwise known as Japanese grilled skewers. The family behind The Bamboo Skewer put their love of food right into the fire with grilled tofu, chicken, steak, meatballs & shrimp and then smothered it in their homemade yakitori BBQ sauce. Can confirm, this sauce should be famous.

Every plate comes with steamed white rice, and choice of side. The day I was there sides include a cucumber pineapple salad, veggie spring roll, and crispy chicken pot stickers.

We went with the cucumber pineapple salad. An incredibly delicious combo that I honestly have never come across. Can this be the next kale trend? I can stand behind a tangy, creamy salad like the one I was served.

What I loved about each plate was how well balanced they were — both in color and nutrition. Something I personally struggle with when going out to eat, is finding a well balanced meal that hits carbs, protein and fats.

Check out both of those dishes! A third of the plate is a protein, a third is a veggie (and fruit) and a third is a carb. BOOM!

From a photographer stand point, the color in each dish is gorgeous! Who doesn’t love to eat the rainbow?
