SPOTLIGHT: Downtown Fingers

Civic Center EATS is in full swing! Offering live music performances, daily workouts on the lawn and the perfect excuse to break out of the office to take in some vitamin D!

We all know the real reason to go — the incredible line-up of food trucks! On one of my recent trips, I visited my friends at Downtown Fingers, self-proclaimed ‘Denver’s favorite finger food food truck’.

Downtown Fingers comes from the brain of Mathew Yamali, a chef with roots in sushi rolling and searing steaks at Capital Grille. He finally decided to make the jump into ownership in 2015 with his first truck, Roll it Up Sushi.

It wasn’t long after that he introduced Downtown Fingers.

One of my favorite questions to ask chefs is where the inspiration for their concept comes from. For most, it’s family history and wanting to bring the memory of home cooking to the masses. For Yamali, he wanted to make the best chicken sandwich in Denver!

‘I wanted to throw my hat in the ring’, says Yamali.

What does it take to make a great chicken sandwich? According to Yamali its fresh chicken, fluffy potato rolls, and really good pickles. Which exactly what you’ll find on this food truck!

Downtown Fingers’ menu is straight forward. Grab a basket of tenders or head for the real stars of the show: Sammies. Each sammie' featured, each named with an area code offering guests an idea of what style of sandwich they’ll be getting.

I opted for the 585 Sammie for Rochester, NY featuring Rochester’s Sweet Sauce drizzled on fried tenders, pickles, and lettuce on a bun. A perfect meal to eat while sitting in the grass while jazz music floats through the air.
